just b/c you get a codeplug with imbe in it doesn't mean that it is going to magically make your radio function.

you need a DSP upgrade. whole different ball of wax.

Latest IMBE firmware uplift price is $900, with a 6 to 8 week factory order interval (e.g., all FLASHport kits are only available through the facory, requiring a STIC-1 and full blown FO). This is why one needs to be careful with eBay ASTROs. No IMBE, no value (unless they are literally giving it away).

A big agency can buy a brand spanking new XTS-1500 with IMBE for about $900, street price. For a one-off with a standard discount, I'd plan on closer to $1,100. Keep in mind that's brand new, and it ain't no stinkin' rice rocket wannabe knock-off. An XTS-1500 is as real a P25 radio as a genuine 18 Kt Rolex! On the other hand, if you're the type that is OK with wearing a Swatch or Timex, have at it with the Kenwood. No sense in over dressing!
