Hello, I'm trying to help out a friend who has a dead radio. I need a S-record, or codeplug (s-record is best) for a VHF Model 1 (any model would be fine) XTS3500. I don't know what the flashcode is.

Thanks,

Jim.

as far as I know u cannot blow a new s-record or codeplug into a 3500 and change features, etc.. The 3500 differs from the 3000 and Astro Sabers.

I'm still looking for the s-rec, or cp.

Can anyone add to RocketNJ's info. I was under the impression that you could employ the same methods on the XTS3500 that you can on the XTS3000. I have seen XTS3500’s with non-factory options.

Is there any way I can repair this codeplug? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim.

If your 3500 is corrupt the only way I know to fix it is to load in the s-record from that radio from BEFORE you tried to upgrade it.

The 3500 will not take a new codeplug or s-record like the 3000's.

If you don't have the original then you have two options.
a) trip to Moto to get repaired or
b) new vocon board

The person who was owns the radio was trying to program the unit himself. He did not save the s-record from this unit. The Vocon is over $710.00 from Motorola, and they will not fix this unit. It’s a blank tagged ebay found, Asian model, they told me not to send it in. I have found that some very good insurance is to read and save the s-record before I do anything (including programming) to the unit. It sounds like my friend just made a $$$ mistake. He told me he was just trying to read it, not program it. He had a COM error, and when the radio reset it powered on with the error tone. He was using a bootlegged ver of Astro Lab, but I think that he hit F8 by mistake.

Save those S-Records, and save yourself a headache!!

George, thanks for the info, even though it's not what I wanted to hear.

Anyone got a used Vocon with IMBE for a VHF unit?

His mistake was using lab Astro software on an XTS3500. The Astro portable software WILL NOT program a 3500. The 3500 has it's own DOS based software.

The codeplug layout on a 3500 is dirrecert than the 3000.

FDNY uses a Windows variation of the RSS which is SP for them. Just thought that I'd add that.

As for your friend who bricked that radio, Using that kind of software was bound to brick it. I would Depot it, I've seen it done time and time over, NEVER seen one get taken, I've even seen letters stating that there is no warrantee on the radio after a no tag radio comes back fixed, so this being said, I would convey to your friend that he should either send the radio to the depot or send it to Smokeycat...

No, jsut a little joke, seriously, send it to the depot.
Or greed bay it. (Ebay)

I called the depot last week, and I was told "don't even send it in, we won't work on it." I told her is was from Ebay, came from overseas, and that it had blank labels on it. I did not tell her how it got killed. He got it for $ 227.50. (ebay item 5751782678) So he does not have much into it, and it was not flashed for IMBE anyway. He does not want to spend to much more money.

thanks all,

Jim.

Sheesh, Should have called that Patt Harrington directly, No all kidding aside, Your bad was calling the depot in advance and explaining it was a grey market radio to begin with.
Should have stopped at a radio shop you're familliar with, preferably one who services LE and then had them depot it for ya. I've seen it done, personally know people who've dont it, well... you get my point.

From what you've said about not wanting to put any $$ into it, I'd suggest Ebay'ing it...

I do work for a shop, and we do lots of P/S work. I have sent in a parts built XTS3000, (11/03) and it came back with no problem. It did come with a basic flash, analog only DSP, and a depot S/N. But now with all the talk about "Nick" radios and what not I wanted to ask. Anyway the unit only had a basic flash, so to spend $295.00 more is not something that my friend wants to do.

I beg to differ. they use an SP version of the DOS programming software. There is NO CPS version for the 3500, release or SP.
