Guys, I have my bosses radio here. He attempted to dump an archive into his VHF Spectra and now it only shows a Fail 999 (memory board and microP serial mismatch) Does anyone have a fix for this? I don't have any spare spectra modules, so I need to try to fix this one as it is. I have a copy of lab, but it does not support this version
Thanks,

If the spectra in question is from Long Beach I switched from naming the remaining channel fail 001 to fail 999.

Thanks,
The fail 999 is caused by the serial number in the MLM not matching the serial number in the microcomputer. In other words, you didn't do a clone and change the numbers to match the radio from the codeplug.
Go back and do a read of the codeplug you want in the radio and then select "CLONE". You will get a message that allows you to correct the serial numbers to match the radio serial number. Be advised that the radio models need to be close to the same in trying to do this. If not your going to have to bit bang the codeplug so the models end up the same as the radio your trying to clone into. You might have to go in and bit bang some of the features also to get the radio to stop complaining.
You might end up with an 01/82 error when you first do the bitbang changes. If so, just read the radio again, don't change anything and write back to the radio. This should correct the checksum that is probably causing the error.

Well, did you get it fixed or is it sitting in the corner, hoping to be forgotten?

Dont know if the OP got theres fixed or not but mine isnt. I opened my archived CP and tried to clone it to the radio and it asked for the serial number and it looked like it took it but when it was done and came back on it still showed the error.

Was it the same error, or did the number change?
Did you try to read the radio after you tried to clone it?
You might have to go in and bit bang the clone codeplug to make the model numbers match.

Same error number Fail 999, I did read it and it looks like it reads fine and i can write back to it but it still shows the Fail 999 error. This started after I put this MLM board in the wrong radio when i had them apart, i powered up the other radio with this radios MLM board before i looked down and saw it. And when i put it back in this radio it now shows the fail 999. And for bit banging i need the lab software correct?

Well I was digging around on my even older programming laptop and had Lab Version 04.04.04, copied it to my new old programming laptop fired it up when into the Service Menu(F2) > Service Aids(F8) > Serial Number(F7) and sure enough the MLM serial was missing a digit, it should have been 221AWJ0268 but it was showing 22_AWJ0268, there was a space between the 2 & A where the 1 should be, I added that and programmed it into the radio and got the FL 01/82 error, exited out of the Lab Software and read and wrote with my regular spectra RSS and all is good now.
Thanks,
Bill

Well glad you got it going. We all fat finger the keyboard now and then, but the software always catches it.
