zetron model 19 help?

My small town fire dept has a model 19 simplexor we have been using for several years to rebroadcast pages from distant 911 center. The m-19 is on our main base radio in the station that we use for dept radio trafic. We decided to install a PL on our frequency and found out that the model 19 will not forward PL tones. So now when the 911 center pages us on our freq the model 19 filters out the subaudible PL before it records and retransmits and our radios never break the squelch. Any body have any ideas how to resolve this problem. The model 19 is attached to a GM-300 if it matters.
Thanks
Chris

When your base radio (gm300) transmits from it's microphone, do your field radios hear the base. If not then you just need to reprogram the gm300 for transmit PL.
If the field radios do hear the gm300 now but do not hear the model 19, the model 19 may be connected to the gm300 as a paging encoder and the gm300 in this mode will strip PL. Look to see if the accessory connector in the gm300 is programed as "Moden Paging" or something similar.
Write back and let us know what you find and we can work out a fix.

It would seem like you need to program the PL into your GM300 and everything should work fine. It is not possible to record and retranmsmit PL tones. Even if the recorder did not filter the tone, it would not pass throught the transmitter audio circuits. PL must be programmed in the transmitter.
There are some complex "flat audio" schemes that involve taking flat audio from the receiver discriminator and passing it to a flat audio input port on the transmitter but for most applications it is much simpler to just re-encode PL in the transmitter.

Ok, found time to look at the radio. It is set up for recieve and transmit pl but still no luck getting mobiles to "hear" the radio when I transmit from mic or when zetron transmitts. I can hear other radios fine i just cant talk to them.

Pull the Model 19 connector out from the GM300 accessory port & replace it with a standard 16-pin connector to enable the internal speaker. Try to talk out with the radio. If people still cannot hear you, then the problem is with the radio. You might want to double check the PL is set to the proper frequency. It's possible you can hear people because the radio mic isn't grounded and thus is ignoring the PL on receive and opening on carrier squelch, but are putting the wrong PL out for TX.

Tried the new accy connector -- same thing / no luck with tx pl. The Accy conector is custom programed to Phn Rmt Rmt-Rx as follows
PIN------Disc------Data Dir-------Debounce------Act Lvl
4--------null 2--------out------------All NO----------High
6--------Null 1---------in------------------------------low
8-------csq det--------out-----------------------------low
9-------null 1-----------in-----------------------------high
12------null 1-----------in-----------------------------low
14-----Ext Alm---------out----------------------------low
The following is zetron to gm 300 connections
GM300 Zetron
pin 2 ------------------------- Tx aud
Pin 3 ------------------------- PTT
pin 5 ------------------------- OUT
pin 7 ------------------------- GND
pin 8 ------------------------- COR
pin 11 ----------------------- Disc
pin 13 ----------------------- 12v+
pin 14 ----------------------- In 2
Maybe some of this info will help
thanks

Did you try what I posted above? The accessory configuration chosen in the RSS won't make any difference whether it transmits PL or not. What I was trying to do was to get you to eliminate the Zetron as a source of the problem by disconnecting it & then transmitting with the GM300 mic. If you have done this, and people can't hear you, and you've verified you have the proper PL programmed, then there is a hardware fault in the GM300.

yes, I removed the zetron accy plug from the unit and used a new accy plug. Still the same outcome- no PL on tx. I have verified the PL is set up in the rss correctly also. The radio might have a hardware issue, but we have just purchased a cm300 from our local moto dealer and he says he cannot set up the new radio to work with the zetron either. I cant access the cm300 with my rss to check it.
I'm going to hook the zetron onto another gm300 and see how that works.
I'll let you know - Thanks for the help

Just a thought
The GM-300 in question is programed as PHONE REMOTE RX, Since it is intended to be the RX radio is it possiable that it is striping the PL internaly due to the expectation that the TX would not be used in this config.
I have never used that config so at this point it is just a thought
I do not have the software manuals or a radio to play with in front of me but will look from work in the morning.
I think I remember a CDM that was set for RICK RX having the same problem (no tx PL) when used as a TX in a Bi-Directional repeater

I looked in the RSS manual but the connector config for Phn Rmt Rmt-Rx is in the GR-300 manual that I do not have. I took a working radio off the shelf and verifyed that it had proper PL in transmit then changed the connector config from PA to Phn Rmt Rmt-Rx.
Retested radio and still had TX Pl so I guess that is not it.
Would sugjest that at this point that you should try a known working GM-300 as the problem may be in the radio you are currently using.

The final verdict is ---------------- Bad Radio. The GM300 wont transmit a pl period. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
