New Emergency RSM?

It's been out for a while now but I've seen no discussion on it, what do you guys think about it?

Part Number: RMN5038A
It's pretty fancy, has all the same controls as a Commander Remote Speaker Mic Minus the top-mounted channel selector knob.

and here's the...
("Commander Remote Speaker Mic") for those of u who haven't seen it.

(They also make a submersible model, meant to be used in conjunction with XTS-R radios: RMN5023B.)

They both are only compatible with the XTS5000, XTS3500, XTS3000, XTS2500, XTS1500, HT1000, MTS2000, MT2000 and the new PR1500.

(and not all of the nifty features will work on some HT/MTSX series, i.e: the ptt, mon buttons and channel knob on the Commander Mic will do what they're supposed to but the -/+ volume buttons won't, while the mic is attached to an MTS2K.)

I don't own either of them at this time, anyone else that does, got a review? :o 8)

Never heard of it or seen it. Looks pretty cool.

Is it IS rated?

The brochure doesn't state Specifically, but it reads: "Intrinsically safe with all compatible radios."

The only thing Google pulls up about the RMN5038A is this PDF from Moto's website:

http://www.motorola.com/governmentanden ... v%2004.pdf

This suggests that this is fully compatable with the HT1000, i.e. that all the buttons work, and the thing is more or less like a regular PSM except without an antenna and with the addition of a Emergency button.

Could one reasonably presume that this mic's basic featureset would also work with MTSX radios, in that all of them can use the features of a normal PSM?

Same as the commander mic. NO PARTS AVAILABLE. If you have a faulty mic jack, throw the whole thing away and buy a new one.

No, take the mic cable off and build a programming cable!

The one with the big knob on top is perhaps the ugliest mic I've ever seen. The first one looks pretty slick though.

I've used the commander a few times at work (XTS3000) and I agree, it is a pretty ugly speaker microphone.

These mikes are dangerous. If you move either the volume or the channel from those set on the radio itself, and then nudge the controls on the radio, the radio will revert to the settings on the radio. This was intended to be the way the radio takes control over the mike, but the microswitches are way too sensitive and you could invertently be on the wrong channel or with the audio too low to be heard at a fire scene. We've red-tagged these mikes for that reason.

You apparently haven't seen the new M/ACom speaker mics....

Now make a Spker Mic Without the channel control but with the EMZ button on top AND a Antenna for the XTS series.
