OK - What is THIS?

Looks like a repeater to me. Well at least by the labels. There is a power supply top left, the exciter is below that and the 70w PA on the bottom.

Then on the right side there is a receiver and a controller.

Looks a lot like some gear at a commercial site where one of the local 2m repeaters is. Rack mounted with a duplexer above it at that site. Not sure of the model or bandsplit though.

Looks like an STR3000 base station. Moto have manufactured all sorts of gear in the same style of packaging, though.

Can you say "Cell site equipment" ?

Yeah... the three slots for receivers are a giveaway.

I know of at least one, Consolidated Edison in the NYC area.

Nextel also surpluses large amounts of broken and upgrade pulls every year.

It's definitely a 70 Watt 800 MHz iDEN Digital Base Radio consisting of the following modules:

1) 3 Branch Diversified (TDMA) Receiver
2) Base Radio Controller
3) (TDMA) Exciter
4) RF Linear Power Amplifier
5) - 48 V DC (Input) Power Supply

All the small white bar code tags are from /\/\'s Infrastructure (Repair) Depot Operations located in Elgin, Illinois.

I wonder why anyone would want or need a unit like this, considering you would need an integrated Site Controller iSC just to take a data download through the Base Site Controller and the Operations & Maintehance Center OMC. Maybe it would make an excellent door stop ... standing it on end.

Somebody may want it for parts. I saw a repeater in a very similar enclosure, perhaps the power supply and other parts might be swappable with other units.

Anyway, it would make for an expensive door stop being 800Mhz gear considering they want $45 for shipping alone.

If the shipping wasn't so high i would buy it, rip the guts out and use it for a custom rack mountable enclosure. The PA compartment has cooling fans, i don't know what the power supply output is amperage wise though.

I buy a lot of stuff like that because of the sheet metal is in good shape and use it house something else.

Wow! Expensive sheet metal rack mount with a very expensive PCB Backplane where all the iDEN modules slide in too. I never gave it much though that service people could use modules as spares for their own 800 MHz TDMA systems.

I wonder if the - 48 V DC power supply is the version that blows up very similar to Quantar version. I'm not sure if iDEN service shop manuals exist for these units since mother /\/\ wrote in the contracts that all service repairs would need to be sent to their IDO facility in Elgin, Illinois.

You're right, $45 for shipping is too expensive for a genuine iDEN door stop.
