I just got a minitor II SV from a friend. He told me that the pager had some problems and if I wanted to try to fix it I could have it. To my finding the pager has 2 problems. 1. It dosent alert when tones are set off 2. Depending on how I hold the pager it has really bad audio out put. What I mean by bad is that it get real quiet and sounds like it is shorting out. I noticed that when i put one finger on the reset button and my thumb on the ruber bushing that cover the "+" battery terminal and squeeze the pager together the audio sounds great. Whey I lay the pager down and just hit the reboot with out squeezing the pager, it sounds like heck. Anyone that could tell me what may be going on with it?

Typical problems for Min IISV pagers with some age on them, which is all of them. Solder defects to the audio and decoder IC's are common. It needs about $50-$75 worth of repairs at a good radio shop.

Reflow every solder joint, especially the IC's. When you squeeze the pager, you are closing a cracked joint, a common MII problem. Also, jumper the external audio jack unless you are the one person in the world that actually uses it.

You should also check and probably reflow the solder on the battery case. I use to do that just as a general practice before trouble shooting any problems the pager may have had. The battery case solder tabs fracture the solder at the connections. You can see it with a strong eye glass.

The battery connections on the flip out cover are another common problem child. I use to lightly polish them with a soft pencil erasure after resoldering the battery case.
