XTS500 Problems

Group,
I have been pulling my hair out over this and can not figure it out. My VHF XTS5000 (Host R05.01.00) is giving me problems. When I place the radio on a channel that is set for CSQ on recieve and the radio is in scan, it makes all of the channels in the scan list to revert to CSQ. So lets say I am on a radom Railroad Channel with the PL set at CSQ and I place the radio in scan, I will now pickup everything on all of the other channels in the scan list as if all the channels PL were programmed as CSQ. I have tried all the diifrent options to try and fix this with no luck. Thanks in advance.

Once the radio is placed into scan, it goes to CSQ for receive unless you set the scan options to scan with PL. All /\/\ radios have been like that for a long time.
I'm sure the XTS users can explain the exact sequence in CPS.

I program one of my "ABC" switches to PL DEFEAT. So when i scan, if I have the ABC toggle on the PL DEFEAT position it will make all personallities CSQ, because it DEFEATS the PL on RX. If the switch is not on the PL DEFEAT position, then the rxvr will not unmute unless there is a proper PL TONE. The display may show the CSQ symbol no matter which channel it lands on, but thats not to say that its receiving that channel in CSQ.
Make any sense?
Hope that helps.

Rusty / 007,
Thanks for the help. I have been programming motorola radio and the XTS3000 Series Radios for a while now, so this is a real suprise for me. I can not find that option anywhere in the software. What is it under in the software? This is not in the Personality Fields or the Scan Fields. Thanks in advance.

PL DEFEAT is not in the scan or personallity fields. Its under radio wide and the buttons/switches. Its an option for any of the buttons or the ABC toggle. Unsure if its also a menu driven option also or not, but look in the menu list and see.
I am on the work computer but if you cant find it i will take some screen shots tonight if need be.

Does anyone know where the "Scan with PL" option is? Can't find this anywhere in the newest version of CPS. I don't think the XTS3000 software had this option. Thanks again.

if the personality is set up for PL rx and you do not have a PL defeat switch then the 5000 scans PL rx. At least mine do with version 5.00 host/dsp

RocketNJ,
My radio personalities are set up for RX PL and the channels still go to CSQ when scanning and scanning is initated on a personality with a CSQ frequency programmed in. I am starting to think something is wrong here, again this is a legit with R05.01.00 Firmware.

I am guessing something isn't programmed correctly in CPS... We have the same XTS5k at work, no problems...
if you want, send me your CP and I will take a look at it

Out of curiosity, you stated the radio is legit. Have you tried calling the Motorola product group in FL?
I've never heard of the issue and have been around the 5000's for a couple of years now.

Under scan-->scan configuration-->conventional tab...you must enable "carrier detect required". According to the help files, with this feature enabled, the radio will only unmute on proper PL detect. The feature seems somewhat mis-named to me, but there you go.

like so many features that have miss-leading names.....
you know the type, when you smack yourself and say "OH THAT"S WHAT THAT DOES!"

Group,
Looks like I got it. I actually checked off the "Priority Channel Marking" Box and it is now doing what it is suppose to do. Todd, I tried the "carrier detect required" box with no luck, so I said what does this box do. So I checked it and yes I have checked it before in the struggle, and nothing. Its working now though. Thanks again to all.
