I am in the process of getting an account with Moto, so I can buy RSS for the Ht1000 series. I just want an idea of how much RSS goes for to see if its worth the hassle I am going through right now to get it. If its out of my price range ( which leads me to beleive it is) I might as well stop the process now. I dont want to have a heart attack when I get the prices.

You can e-mail me or PM if need be. I havnt got the licensing agreement yet so I dont know if your allowed to tell people how much it costs!

This is EXACTLY why there is piracy. You can get "K" or "V" RSS for 1/10th that and without having to have your attorney read the contract.

That's like Epyx Software selling Winter Games for the Commodore 128 today for $169.00 yet.

And for the most part, the HT1000 is still a current product. RVN4001 Spectra software, version 6.05, (which has been out for HOW long?) lists for $279. RVN4002 Saber RSS is still $295, but HVN9262 P200 RSS and RVN4007 Syntor X9000 RSS are $78.

That's not the intent. If you're a shop that programs radios at $25-40 apiece, then you recover the cost of the software quickly. If you're am individual with 1 or 2 radios, it's cheaper to just go to a shop and pay to have them programmed.

Kenwood and Yaesu never had the plan of having a nationwide network of servicing dealers.

The real culprit is the "Information yearns to be free" culture that feels that copyrights only apply to others.

I was thinking that it would be around $150- $200. Will have to talk to my dept and a couple of the other guys maybe we want to split the price. Thanks for the input.

I understand how the numbers work, and I am not saying this with hams in mind. The fact is that a shop has to pay this pathetic amount of money for dinosaur RSS even though they may make it back in a few weeks or even days. The others can charge less and don't seem to have a problem with it and besides, theirs isn't loaded with bugs and they don't make you jump through hoops to purchase it.
The point is that if one tries to legally purschase RSS/CPS and obey the copyright laws, they are denied the product many times. Now you have somebody steal it because they couldn't get it the right way. If you charge a reasonable price, you will sell more of it- much more. Most people are willing to pay $40 or so dollars for software and realize that it isn't even worth copying at this price. This radio has been around for 15 years and IS a very out of date product. I can even understand charging $300 for CPS on a current model since you will be servicing and selling them, but for these older radios, this is just ridiculous.

I know, I use the saber for my job as an EMT in NY. Some of them still use Sabers. But the real funny thing is you CAN buy (on ebay) the Proramming Cable for $20 and RIB box for $40, but yet have to pay $310 (as of this date) to purchase the software DIRECTLY from motorola only. It's like selling a car for $10 but selling the key that starts it for $15,000.... whoever thought of that idea should go for a psychiatric evaluation. I mean who else seems to be made-out of money here? Certainly not me, I don't make enough to e blowing that much cash on software that should cost no more than $50-$60.
