MCS2000III and APCO25

Post by aays888 »

Yesterday I had what ended up to be a argument with a person who told me that a MCS2000III can be modified to operate digital, from M with the installment of a chip. I told this certain operator that it can not and only the Astro series (Saber & XTS) Motorola's can.
Can someone who does know please reassure me and HIM that they can not be converted.

Thanks Anthony.

What radios do you own?: APX,XTS2500,XTL2500,XTL1500

Cannot. The MSC2000 is an analog only radio and the CPS
has no provisions for Astro digital in the programming features.

What and MCS and MTS2000 can do though is be digital encrypted.
Maybe this is what the other person was leaning towards.

Thanks KS4VT, I knew it  . Our police force is now moving over to APCO25, and this operator got on air trying to sell his MCS2000III and saying it can be modified to receive digital transmissions.

Sure a MCS2000 can receive Astro transmisions.
The problem comes if you also want to understand what the other person is saying.

Yep, an MCS2000 will receive APCO25 all day long.

Decode? You want to decode it? Well, hell, that's a different matter.
