XTS-5000 programming help

Help. In the past I've been able to program the XTS-5000 on my bench computer, but recently I received a shipment of units back from Moto after repairs. I am unable to read these units and suspect the firmware may be a newer version and incompatible with my software but I cannot confirm that. My software is the Astro 25 version 5.0.

Is there an easy way (without reading it) of telling what the firmware version is? A button sequence while turning it on or anthing like that?

Does anyone know of a place I can got to research whether or not I have the latest software for these?

Just to let you know it isn't anything stupid, I can get the radio to respond to a read request with the 3000 software which should rule out my hardware used for programming. I have tried multiple cables and SmartRib's.

The error I get is e4000386 on the wrong COM port and e400039e on the right Com port so I think it does see the radio but won't communicate with it.

Thank you for any help you can lend.

Ok, I can now read them but had to change my setup. I was using a cable that plugged into the SmartRib, but I removed that hardware and instead used a cable labeled RKN4106A that goes directly from my Com port to the radio with no SmartRib box. I'm new to Moto so I wonder if I'm not just using the wrong equipment to program. Anyone with insight?

RKN4106A is the correct cable for reading the Astro25 portables [XTS5000, 2500, etc.]

The radio can read out its Host & DSP versions, model & serial number, etc. Turn the unit off, then back on. After it boots but before you touch any other controls, press side button number 2 five times.

This is, of course, dependent upon the radio being a display model. If the radio doesn't have a display, you must read the radio with the software to determine the radio info.

thanks

Thanks for clarifying that. I was half expecting the radio to start speaking to me.

Good luck, I had a similar problem a while back. We got some XTS-5k's back from the depot, and had to reprog them-- unfortunately, the codeplug was "experimental". We had a field rep come by the next week, and with his depot tools, he couldn't get into them. Long story short, they went back to depot, and now work fine (assuming they are the same radios, and not just an image)
