Which Antenna For XTS P/S Speaker Mic

Which antenna do i need for a XTS5000 VHF P/S speaker mic. Will a Visar work? or do i need a stubby one. Part #'s would be nice

Thanks MotoTech. Just talked to a friend that was at Dayton, He relayed to me that someone told him. Thaaaat the VHF XTS needed something special in regards to a Public Safety mic, but he can't remember. I can only think in relation to a Stubby ant. or maybe the length of the straight cord.......

Anyone?

Don't forget that you need the RF switch that goes on the radio before the radio mounted antenna. This supplies the RF connection to the shoulder microphone.

We use public safety speaker mics on the 800 mhz xts3000 at work & they work very well - better than a regular speaker mic and even better than the radio by itself.

I bought the setup for my personal VHF xts and it didn't work very well at all. Tried a "stubby" vhf (which sucked), one off of a Ht1000 which wasn't much better, and then the big, long antenna that the xts came with. That one worked okay, but not as good as without the mic plus that's a real long antenna to have on a speaker mic.

Maybe I was doing something wrong, but in VHF it wasn't worth the expense of the mic & RF switch.

VHF is a no-no in terms of RF energy flowing thru your head from a pub speaker mic. Motorola will tell u the same.

Has it been done? Yup. Does it work well? Sometimes. Would I do it? Hell no.

6 watts of RF next to the head isn't my idea of fun.

Both antennas are basically the same distance away from your brains ...

But I'll agree with kf4pxz, my radio suffered severely in receiver sensitivity using the speaker/mic and I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything wrong.

My thoughts exactly......However im now being told that VHF is not so good with P/S mics.

Well i guess i'll list the XTS mic and Adaptor on the EE for someone with a UHF / 800 Mhz radio......thats after i try it out
