Hello...

I currently have my HT1250 programmed for QCII with "OR" signalling, but if I have the radio in scan and I receive an alert, the radio stops scanning and "Call received" remains on the display with the amber LED flashing until the PTT or Monitor buttons are pressed. Is there any way for the radio to remain in scan after an alert is received? I know my HT1000 will remain in scan after a QCII alert is received, so I assume the same would work with an HT1250...but I guess with /\/\ one never can tell.

take that channel out of your scanlist.

The channel is my main fire channel, I want to be able to scan but monitor for a QCII alert--I have that much accomplished, I just want the radio to resume scanning afterwards...like I said it's not unheard of, as I have accomplished it on my HT1000 using the "auto reset" feature...but it doesn't seem to work the same way on the HT1250.

I hope that you are not depending on this radio to hear every time your tones go off?

If you want to hear every set of tones, DO NOT SCAN!!

Portable radios are not meant to replace a pager. (At least not while scanning.)

For years we have been fighting this battle, portables are not meant to be scanners or pagers. The scan rate is not as fast as a good scanner, and even with priorty set, you will miss calls.

If it is important that you hear every set of tones, then do not scan, or carry a pager.

what is that channel is a priority?

ok apparently I'm not getting my point across...not to sound rude, thank you for your concern, but I am fully aware of not using a portable in place of a pager, and I don't do so...I simply want to know if the HT1250 can continue scan after the alert is received.

Two issues:

First, the advice you have been given is correct: a channel used for QC alerting should not be included in a scan list. Because QC decoding is time sensitive and not repeated, encountering a QC send in mid-stream (as will happen when scanning) will result in failures to detect.

Second, QC is a form of muting. The function of the QC feature is to unmute the radio after a valid code is detected. What then do you want the radio to do? Most people select the "remain unmuted" option -- so that you can hear the whole broadcast -- and this will suspend scanning until the QC muting is reset. There is an option that will reset the QC muting after the passage of time, but its use is not recommended.

I have set-up CP200 radios as you describe for several hotels. They constantly scan the QCII channel so they can receive individual & group pages. The set-up should be similar for HT series radios.

First, set the QCII system for Sel Call, not Call Alert. Set the 'Auto reset timer' for "Auto w/carrier override". Basically, after receiving a page, the radio will remain unmuted for approx 7 seconds after the last carrier transmission drops out. The radio should resume scanning after this time-out period...at least the CP200s do.

I found that increasing the "signalling hold time" in the scan options from the default 400ms to 2000ms allows for proper decoding of the QCII about 98% of the time. Leaving it at default dropped it to around 60-70%.

Todd-thanks for that tip, I've had thoughts of trying that but have not gotten to it. 98% is better than 60, the usual, and there will always be some FD's that insist on scanning their page.
