Hi, I just got a VHF XTS5000 I and it does not do MDC1200. I can program it in the CPS but the radio will not do it. I thought all XTS5000s had MDC1200 standard. Am I wrong?

They do if you buy one NOW - but early XTS5000 firmware did not do MDC.

You need firmware 4.00.00 or greater...at least, we had to upgrade from 3.50.00 to 4.00.00 before the MDC would work.

If it is a panter radio it will not support MDC due to its ancient firmware. I was disappointed to find this also but, hey, thats what you get for $600.

I have an xts5000 ver 02.20 H35 package - model 1 - it does not do ptt mdc or any mdc at all - does it only need an software upgrade to make it do ptt mdc?
Is it possible to get this software upgrade with an s/n 123abc1234?

Yes, it will.

No, you can not. It is a lost cause and you will not be able to get a dealer to upgrade the firmware. This includes motorola... no go with 123 SN.

I had my panter XTS5000 firmware lifted up to version 6 a while back. As long as you order extra firmware upgrades when you order using a legit serial number, you can upgrade the 123ABC1234 radio.

No more dishonest than any other hack.

Motorola has never asked me for a serial number when processing firmware upgrades, only a model and flashcode

Yeah. Not impossible, but a real pain in the ass if you don't have connections.
