i'm looking at getting a deskset controller (MC2000) and a radio (CDM1550) so we can make use of the radio inhibit feature. my question is: will the inhibit signal pass through my repeater (MTR2000 w/ zetron 38A tone panel) without being affected or will i have to use the CDM in simplex? ...or change something in the MTR's codeplug? i'm kinda new at the inhibit feature. never used it before so i really don't know how it works. is it just an MDC1200 packet?

also, is there anything needed in the radio's programming other than turning the MDC decode "on" that allows the radio to be disabled? i have a variety of radio's but i was speaking in general.

my radio's currently consist of:
CDM750
CDM1250
HT750
HT1250
EX500
EX600XLS
PR400
CT250 [i don't think this one allows radio inhibit but oh well, i only have a few]
SP50 [same goes for these but we're phasing them out too]

FYI - in the future i plan to get a dedicated line between the MC2000 and the MTR2000, (halfway across town) but that probably won't be for a little while. i'd still like to make use of the radio inhibit in the meantime though. that's why i chose the CDM1550 to use with the deskset, because i'm pretty sure it can send the radio inhibit. ...please correct me if i am wrong.

If your MTR will pass MDC1200, it should pass the inhibit commands OK. You may have to tweak timings a little - I don't know if the target radio sends an ack for an inhibit command.

In the software for some radios, there's a field to enable to allow the radio to be inhibited. I don't have Pro series software in front of me, so I couldn't tell you exactly where it is. I know it's in Astro.

That should be it. In theory, you're good to go. It just may take a little fine tuning.

k, thanks bob. i have to program some radios tomorrow so i figured even though i don't have the equipment necessary to give the inhibit command yet, i might as well get the radios ready to receive it. this way i don't have to do this batch over again.

i'm looking in the professional CPS at a codeplug for an EX600xls and i see a box to enable 'radio check decode' and another for 'sel cal decode'. anybody know if there's anything else? that's all i could find that looks like it might be it.

in the tree, it's under:
SIGNALING...MDC SYSTEM...MDC SYSTEM-1...BASIC...RADIO CHECK DECODE. that box is currently checked.

and also:
SIGNALING...MDC SYSTEM...MDC SYSTEM-1...CALL ALERT/SEL CAL...SEL CAL DECODE. that box is also checked.

can anybody verify that this will allow the radio to accept the inhibit command?

The radio itself may not give you the option to allow for it to be inhibited or not.

Radio check means that you can send a packet to a radio and the radio will fire a packet back say, yeah, i'm here, and I'm turned on, and lucky for you - i'm on the channel you sent a check on.

Select Call is just something that will make the radio beep 2-3 times and then allow for a "call" to take place, and then, if reset, the radio can mute and wait for another selcall packet to come through.

When you get your console, i'd test inhibit one of your radios to ensure that it works. Almost any repeater will pass MDC packets, so I wouldn't worry about a MTR passing them. You shouldn't really have to do any special tweeks - it's no more exciting than the usual MDC PTTID that you may or may not send over the air.
