Hello all.I was wondering how a type ii /smartzone system determines what radios are allowed on,and how the admin can block out a given radio. There has to be more than just changing the personal id in the cps.Does the system look at the serial number??What else is looked at by the system. Thanks for the help.... :)

The system only looks at the 6-digit individual ID...7XXXXX. That's it, that's all. Generally, the admin does what's called 'negative subscriber activation', which means the system is initialized with all individual IDs invalid. Then, the admin will enable only those IDs which are supposed to be on the system. This offers fairly tight control over who can be on the system.

The above is true for all the Motorola systems I've worked with so far, but I have no experience with the later Smartzone 6.x systems...perhaps they utilize things like the ESN# in the XTS2500/5000 series, but I don't know. It would offer a whole other level of access control if they did, since then even a valid ID couldn't access if it didn't match up with the ESN#.

The newer LTR Passport protocol supports exactly that.

I would think it would need an ESN as you stated.Anyone with an inkling of radio knowledge would be able to easily go past the system key(DUHHH),then just use somebodys ID and your in,at least for scanning.I am not sure how advanced system keys work, mabye thats the Key to keeping people out.Luckly for me I am allowed on our system.... :D
