CB Antenna

One of our local PD's is looking to put a CB in their vehicles to monitor channel 9. I have looked at a few antennas, and they are big I know, but I am looking for something with the highest preformance, with the lowest height. Ratshack has a couple, but they look to whackerish...

Looking for something plain and simple, good RX & TX, low height...

Any ideas?

i use a nmo mount larsen low band 27 meg antenna it has great results with a near flat match not only that it looks like a normal high gain vhf antenna just that the load coil is a bit taller

I second the Larsen NMO27 coil and whip. Very good performance and looks like a professional antenna rather than some hamsexy POS.

Be sure to use a proper mount (drill the hole or L-bracket) that's well grounded. My experience has been the antenna seems to work only with a solid counterpoise. The coil is DC grounded. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Maxrad also makes their lowband antennas in the 27Mhz split.

All the PD cars around here that have CB in them use K40 trunk mounts.

I use it on my car, and I love it. I know its big, but they work.
The main problem is gonna be all the mexicans and them running high power on CH-9 with the band openings. You'd better bet that they will be turned off most of the time.

Vote 6 for Larsen NMO27 - 600 state cars can't be that wrong.

Larsen or Antennex NMO. I have used both, with no problems.

ALthough, just be a stud and suggest ball mount 102" whip antennas for the fenders. Don't have a hair on your !@# if you don't!

For guys like us with the former MSHP cars, that wouldn't be a problem...my Carprice still has a ballmount 8)

However, I think he's looking for something a little smaller.
