Fail 001 error on Astro Saber

Post by bellersley »

I've got an interesting problem that seems to be intermittant.

First the specs:

VHF Astro Saber
Host: R07.11.00
DSP: N8.02.06
Flash: 599108-1C5E00-1
Mdl#: H04KDH9PD7AN

Yes, the F/C is a "Nick" flash, but the radio isn't - it has legit tags and such, it's just the Flash that's been tinkered with.

Anywho, the way it's programmed, the trunking system TX channels aren't the real ones the system it's monitoring uses. I've got coverage type set to Smartnet and affiliate on PTT. Anyways, I've noticed that sometimes when I hit the PTT button by accident and the TX inhibit switch isn't enabled, it'll (obviously) flash the TX light and try to affiliate, but it will obvioulsy not work.

Lately, I've noticed that sometimes when it flashes TX, it'll also bonk and display FAIL 001 each time it tries to TX. It transmits fine on conventional channels and according to a service monitor is on frequency. As I said, this doesn't happen all the time, it seems to come and go.

As I understand, FAIL 001 means synth. out of lock, but the frequency it's trying to TX on is around 146MHz, certainly inside it's specs.

It's not an operational issue, as I never use it to TX on a trunking system anyway...just wondering what might be causing it.

Thanks for your input!

Further to this, it seems to only happen on one specific tower. I'm aparantly not the only person who's had it happen to them on the same tower I was on.

Strange.

you are getting an unlock due to your trunking programming, which is trying to send the radio to an out-of-VCO-limits channel.

this is one of the ways that people who don't know what they are doing cause problems on trunking systems....especially on OBT systems.

if you are a legitimate user of the trunk, get your radio programmed correctly.

if you aren't - GET OFF THE SYSTEM.

this is a simple, open and shut case. you are committing computer network trespass. motorola has "been there, done that" - and now they toss a homeland security spin on it.

based on your statement about being on a VHF trunk and being in canada... obviously you are on the RCMP system [edit... wrong...RCMP is UHF... perhaps the Ontario Provisional Police?]...and you are breaking the law.

three words for you my friend.
