Astro-spectra 1 Control head vs. 2

We have 127 800 MHZ trunk mount Astro Spectras. The model number on all of them is D04UJF9PW5AN.

The ones in ambulances have two control heads, and the ones in the fire trucks have one.

Our radio shop is telling us that you can't take a one control head radio and hook it to two control heads.

I disagree. There are two ports, and they all have the same model number. The programming templates are different. I'm thinking that you can load a two control head template into any of these and it will work.

Am I incorrect?

Thanks
Robert

I would assume your correct as well. I believe it's a simple flag in the Spectra RSS that says "you have two control heads".

You shouldn't have to program the rear or front control heads like you had to one the old spectra's - channel names and mappings are sent via the data bus in the radio.

Can't hurt to try of course... your not going to blow anything up. Worse comes to worse - it won't work.

go kick the morons at the two-way shop in the junk.

statement above is correct.... it's just a flag in the software telling the radio there are multiple control heads.

then go back and kick the two-way shop tech in the junk AGAIN for being dumb...nothing irritates me more than idiots who have the ability to make a qualified, correct statement....F it up.

they probably want to sell you a new radio too.

Give them these instrucitons if you wish...

Read Radio:

In DOS RSS:
Main Menu
F4 (Change / View)
F3 (Radio Wide Buttons... etc)
F9 (More Options)
Bottom of the list "Dual Control Head"
Just enable and reprogram

In CPS:
Radio Configuration
Radio Wide
Advanced II
half-way down is "Control Head"
Check the box that says "Dual Control Head"
reprogram

Class dismissed
