Anyone familar with this unit? is it aftermarket or is it something custom the shop had made? New customer is asking for me to duplicate it.
I have never seen it before. it appears to be a drop in cover taking the place of the arm rest. Pic is from an 03 Suburban. Thanks

I'd say with about 99% certainty that the pic would be custom work.

Yep,
Completely custom if you ask me. I had experiemented with doing similar work in both plastic (ABS) and stainless steel before I just pulled the factory console and installed my semi custom Gamber Johnson setup.
I would suggest going with the Jotto Desk or Havis Shields drop in replacment for the Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon console.
Radio would mount in a combo horizontal/vertial console where the factory cupholders and cubby holes are now.

I'd second that. Building custom consoles is definitely an art form... one I'm not tremendously good at. My pair of Gamber consoles currently (18" and 14" back-to-back) or the 30" Havis Consolidater going in the new truck is cheaper (when you consider materials and time) and they Just Work.
The drop-in replacement consoles look pretty nice if you're not looking for a ton of radios (the new truck will have 12 radios in the console along with a Cencom and a PCCS9R1, so they dont work out for me.)

12 radios?!?! Jesus, people thought I was nuts for having 5 radios that actually get used professionally.

Ditto. The ones that don't get used professionally (VFD, media, etc.) get used for hamsexual purposes. Unfortunately, since everyone wants to run a different band and protocol around here (analog, conventional P25, LTR, ad nauseum, AM for aircraft, etc.) it's tough keeping the number of radios down.
And I've got mirrored pairs of Spectras... in a command role, it's nice to be able to select a fireground channel and two neighboring departments all at once. Because of our communications "structure" (ahem) it's necessary quite often.
thanks for the input

thanks to all for the input, Saw the car in person and yup its custom. He said the shop had it made using an interior shop. on his conversion bill it was at a cost of 1000.00 for the console work - Pretty steep if you ask me. My preference would be to use the Jotto contour also and keep his storage (like in the other posting of pics I had done a few weeks ago) however , customers are customers and for whatever reason he prefers to have the open cup holders and his mic cables all over the place, and likes to just stick the cencom up against the dash with velcro.

to each his own I guess....
