W5 ignition sense

What is necessary to get the XTL5K/W5 dash mount to follow the ignition for radio power up? Hardware, software or both?
This radio has its ignition sense connected to follow the master vehicle switch. The main B+ lead is straight to a full-time B+ hot supply.
You have to turn the radio on each time the vehicle is powered up. When you turn off the master and switch it back on, you always have to power the radio up manually. I assume there's an internal mod to make these radios' power follow the ignition lead, but haven't found it in the svc manual yet.

There is a jumper in the control head itself that controls this if I recall.
If you search around the board, you might find out where it is - it's in the control head. Sadly, I do not recall where specificly it is, and how it's supposed to be changed.

Searched the board and went through the service manual again and nothing! I know these radios will auto-power but just can't find this.

I can't find anything in the installation or basic service manuals to indicate a need to add/remove a jumper. According to the books, it should work by default.
Unfortunately, all the units I've worked with so far have been remote units, so they didn't use the accessory connector for ignition sense.
The settings in the CPS for ignition (radio wide->advanced tab) are blank, tx inhibit, PTT tx inhibit. I assume leaving it blank defaults it to regular power on/off, as that's how our remote units are set up.
So...does the radio power off when the master switch is turned off?

That's the strange thing- it will power off when shut off.

What is the "Master Switch" controlling?? The Neg or Pos side of the battery? Once B+ is removed from the Main Power lead you have to manually power it on with the switch on the face of the head. If the main lead and the "green lead" have constant 12v then the orange will power the unit on with + 12v. Your initial power on should be 12v to all 3 leads and power the radio on with the main power switch on the face of the head... After that the unit will follow the orange lead as long as the "Master switch" on the vehicle does not interupt the ground.

That's nice...but he has a dash-mount radio.

I was just at the department again where this truck is and after checking things out, it was indeed a ground-switched master. We just don't see these anymore! What threw me off at first was the truck builder (in 1975) used red cables on the switch.
I'm going to get the truck in the shop next week and switch the electrical system over to the correct battery switching to solve this "big" problem they have.
thanks again all

run the main power wire to switched B+, run the ignition sense wire to constant B+
it sounds backwards, but i just had one in the bay, doing the same BS and thats what fixed it.

There is no switched B+.....it is switched ground on this rig.

Insert a relay to convert the switched ground to switched B+ for the ignition sense. I.e: coil 1 to B+; coil 2 to switched ground; switch common to B+; switch NO to ignition sense line.

Won't work.
By doing this, you will then have to connect the radio's black ground lead to ground. When this happens, the entire truck will now ground through the coax back though the radio and to ground.
We all know how long that will last. This is tru no matter how or what you switch on the + side.
It has to be changed to + master switch.
