XTS 5000 & XTVA

Post by JB »

I am looking for any agency that is using a 5000 and an XTVA together. Specifically, are their any problems with the combination. Also, what if any problems are you having with the XTS 5000?

Haven't used the MTVA, so can't help you there, however...

There is a serious problem with the XTS5000 power amplifiers...in 800MHz at least. We have a customer with 250 radios, and within 30 days of taking receipt & using the radios, the power amplifiers began failing. The failure rate was high enough that Motorola replaced the P.A. in every radio. I suppose they were hoping it was a bad batch of amplifiers. Unfortunately, the P.A. failures continued within weeks of the replacements. We are not the only people seeing this failure, although it's apparently not as severe for other customers...

The Motorola engineering & product groups are working on it, but there's no resolution in sight to my knowledge.

We have over 400 XTS 5000's. No real issues known to date. We have about 50 XTVA's and everyone seems to like them. There a bit bulky for the smaller vehicles but overall everyone likes them and no know issues thus far.

Do you guys use the XTVAs with the HHCH? I'm looking to get an XTVA with HHCH that will work on my 800 XTS5k...

My complaint, the FPP option doesn't work while in the XTVA. Aside from that nothing to complain about, as if this isn't a big one especially when you use FPP a lot.

We use them in some vehicles. I haven't had any complaints, but they are bulky in smaller cars as has been pointed out. We mostly use them in the lower UHF bands, Q/R/S.

XTVAs are a serious :o to mount in vehicles with integrated factory consoles. (Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons are like this, but I wouldn't expect many people here are familiar with these vehicles.)
