at our Drug Task Force unit we have a 99 1500 Chevy thats going to be driven by one of the agents this vehicle has the "headlights come on automatically at dusk feature and its not the old snetinel feature like Cadillacs had where you could ste your lights this is like built in, we need deperately to disable that , sometimes he is following someone and the headlights on just draw too much attention MIGHTA AS WELL put blue light on thr truck

has anybody run into that and disabled it, agent went to delaer but they dont want to disable NOTHING ...liability reasons I guess

How about just putting an in-line kill switch on the headlights? In the past we have done that to completly kill the front lights for a similar situation. Not with the same vehicle as yours, but would seem to work in the same manor. then just put the toggle someplace convient for the driver.

My '99 Yukon had a DRL fuse that I pulled. Kilt 'em outright.
Might try that.

If that particular vehicle doesn't have a fuse that you can pull to disable the DRLs, take a look here:

They are a pretty decent reference for DRLs.

Pull the ambient light sensor (the little black dome on the dash) insert a resistor in the harness that is connected to the sensor, place the sensor back in the dash, but don't reconnect the wiring.

I am not 100% sure on the value of resistor, but I have heard a 1k will work, also I have heard of people hooking an led in to draw enough. Bottom line:In the 1999 GM's defeating the sensor or having the BCM reprogrammed are the only ways around the auto headlights.

I have an '01 GMC truck. I read in the manual that if I push the cab light control button 4 times (momentary switch), it disables the auto light functions in the computer. Push 4 tmes again, it will bring it back to default. The chime will ring twice to confirm your action.

By doing this, it will kill the DRL's and you will need to activate the headlights and parking lights manually with the headlight switch.

What I understand, if you kill the ignition, it will return to default, though. I'll check the manual again, I thought I read that you could perm disable by pushing it 8x's. I' confirm and reply back.

I hate not being able to turn off the lights with the switch whenever I want.

The "push the button 4 times" trick only works with the 2000 and newers. There was NO override in the 1999's.

I I had to bend a pin back to disable them on my 2001 VW Jetta.

i think that there is also a cut off when you set the e-brake. in use to have a medic unit that i think was the same year and that is how i shut off the day time lights. might be able to do something with the e-brake switch.
