XTS5000 question

Post by ArmsonOeg »

I have a VHF 5000 set up on a local county that is digital. When i receive them they sound terrible, kinda like that "Steven Hawkins" but worse. It beeps, buzzes and clicks even when im in that county but worse when im out of that county. Im in the process of finding if they are simulcast . Anyway does anyone have any ideas on what could be a fix for this.

Thanks

How solid is your signal? If you are on the fringe or have a bad signal, your radio will error out and it will sound like crap - beeps, buzzes, clicks, the voice will seem garbled...

Well its the same Freq. that they used last year in analog (repeater) and i could copy just fine. listening on a analog radio i hear all the digital noise just fine. Like i said even when im in that county it's pretty bad. Im just wondering if something is not set right. If this is what Digital is like we may just go back to analog. By the way, our radios sound fine simplex in Astro.

is your radio aligned correctly? (reference oscillator and rx bandpass filters)

Also when they migrated from analog to digital they might have been licensed for a lower ERP.

You mention you have a VHF 5k. What is the host/dsp? If it is one of the 123ABC radios with the old 2.xx firmware then a firmware refresh (if you can get it) would help with IMBE decoding.

Check your personality settings to make sure you dont have it set for analog instead of digital.

Its already set to digital, as he is hearing the digital voice...albeit at a high BER rate.
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system
