How can the Encryption module type be determined in an ASIII

Post by cryptoman »

I just got an Astro Saber III HT and would like to find out what type (if any)
Securenet encryption is installed. The person I got it from said that it had
one, but didn't know what type. I would prefer to not have to open the
radio up.

When I put the ( ) (\) switch in either position, there is no difference. Also, when I
connected a T3011DX KVL, there was no keyload message on the screen and I
got a failure message on the KVL when I tried to load a key.

This is the first Astro Saber for me, so I don't know much about these radios yet.

Any help is appreciated!

Turn the radio on. After the self check completes, press the front wrap button (I think that's right... it might be the rear one... in any case, the buttons under TX) 5 times in a row. The radio should indicate SERVICE then spool off about 12 pages of info.

Of interest to you will be anything prefaced KG. A common configuration would be KG1 DES-XL / KG2 DES-OFB / KG3 NONE.

Note that, if the radio does have a UCM installed, but if the Secure Hardware Equipped setting is disabled in software, you will NOT see any KG entries in the service mode.
