Picked up a Radius PR3000 fire pager yesterday. Tiny little thing. Anyone have some input on this unit? How to program, is it a quality unit? Worth hanging onto? Opinons?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have PR3000 UHF pagers ( Not the VHF ) in service yet today with a few customers and they seem to be happy with them .

I cant say ive had serious troubles with them but the battery door seems to get replaced a bit more than i had expected.

Otherwise they pretty much did the job without too many problems.

The PR3000 pager is a crystal type pager = but you do program the QCII tones using the computer its not a synthesized pager as in crystaless .

Hmm.. Never delt with anything with crystals. Can I just call up JAN, order a crystal and put it in or do I need to have a tech re-tune it and allign it on a bench? I know if it were a mitrek it'd need some attention in regards to allignment but since it's a recieve pose the question.

Other than that all I need is the 2-tone for my FD and find someone who can program them in, correct? I've got a RIB and cables for just about everything but never delt with pagers and think I remember seeing something about a "universal pager interface'??

ok... next question... anyone offer such service around here? not worth me spending hours and hours on this when it's simply a one time thing. I just assume pay someone who's already done it in this case.

EKLB do you do it? Looking for side work? I've got one which will need a new crystal.

Isn't that just a rebadged Keynote? We have several of them floating around on the FD. Nice little crystal synthesized things. Good receive and pretty tough. Only issues I have ever had are broken clips or the weird battery door (both problems which are very rare--by no means common).

If you are looking for a replacement that is the same size, check out the Swissphone Quattrino. Our dept bought one for me to evaluate and it has worked flawlessly. It is allegedly the most common alert pager in Europe.

Check it out here

Yup, KeyNote and PR3000 are the same animal. Loud and clear audio and using a single 'AA' battery rather than having to go thru the charging nonsense is a plus in my book.

Have you (or anyone else) had any experience with the large-display POCSAG units? We are looking around for an alternative to the somewhat fragile Advisor Gold / Advisor II pagers for a particular customer. There isn't much out there in the marketplace, and I had just recently seen some brochures for the Swissphone stuff.

What exactly is POCSAG? Is that when they send the 931.xxxxmhz paging data over VHF?

POCSAG is a protocol used to transmit the data.

It's a much older standard.

Think of Pocsag as the same as flex (NO, not standard wise), but you need a flex pager to get flex pages off a flex system.... POCSAG pager to get pages off a POCSAG system...

It's like MDC and QCII.... each have their merrits and features, and have the ability to have the same effect in some respects... obviously you can do more than call alerts or sel-call's with MDC, but hopefully your getting the analogy.

Just different ways of doing the same sorts of things.

With POCSAG can they send data and voice to the pager? I have seen keynotes with a LCD display up top. It would be nice to get voice on the text-only alphapagers (i.e. getting address and notes along with voice receive in the same pager). I think that technology still can evolve. I hate carrying 'batman' gear (alphapager, voice pager, cell,...).

I'm supposed to be looking into getting the alphapage notes sent to cellphones. At least with that we could get message delivery confirmation. Thats one item off of the bat belt. If we could also get voice linked to group call with nexsmell, that would be moving forward (by no means the sole source of voice comm's).
