Batboard

I was going through cps 4.0 last night and trying to program a w9 head to have three of the keypad buttons take me to a particular mode for each of those buttons. I have set up spectras this way. It appears the astro spectra can do it, I programmed the buttons for what I believe was the right function. From the help file it states the modes these buttons are programmed for can be changed by being on a particular mode, do a long press of the assigned button and it then is a hot button for that mode. I cant get it to work though. Has anyone else done this?
