06 Explorer- Bad News

bad news ---Just a heads up ... Had a cust order one on NY state bid and just canx it when the dealer called him to give him the heads up that the new 06 has gone back to the shifter on the floor in a molded console kinda like the trail blazer and envoy are... so 3 CDMS are not going to have a real home unless you remote mount them on a stalk on the side of the console or really come up with a plan.. I spoke with Jotto Desk a few days ago and they have no intentions of trying to over come this, not sure about Havis or Troy or anyone else. Fords web site has the interior pics up and running as well now.
Heres a link to a few pics for a double stack on a stalk we did for a customers POV Durango where the factory console stayed in place.

Mounting around factory consoles

:)

Very nice looking set up you did there...........

How is the passenger seat / space affected by the location of those two Moto's??

I'm thinking of getting a lap top mount I saw already available for the new Ford 500. Since it will be a seat anchor style, no drilling. Just have my scanner "hovering" over the console.

I have also seen RAM's tripod mounts with 3 flexing "legs". Two of them can fit into the seat anchor while the third one can be attached where possible.

Thanks and take care,
Julian

Hello all,
The install there is EXACTLY what i had to go through with my 05' chevy trail blazer . I dont think anyone will make a truck with the gear shifter on the column again.... sad though... but it will make all future installs more interesting.... or more of a pain in the A$$ depending on how you look at it..

It worked as best it could

the amount of room left is not an issue unless you have a "bigger" sized person passenger in need of some leg width room. His wife is about 140 -150lbs doesnt even know its there. We also did a trailblazer with 3 stacked and that worked out ok as well. we use the straight mounts with the adjustments knobs both top and bottom, that allows it to be moved a bit as needed. I run a single CDM uhf in my Envoy on a stalk. Last month we started a H2 double stacked , we used an alpha remote siren and we have it set up so that the spare buttons on the CDM are used activate the lights and siren. We will be adding lights in about 2 more weeks so I will post those pics next.

thanks for the reply...
I would be anxious to see the pics.....I think that they will probabally be mounted close to the way that i have them done-or anyone else who does not have the luxury of a center console....
I think the tahoe has the shifter on the column but i'm not sure....

I really like the Havis gear. I have their console for the 04 Expedition and its excellent. I'm glad they have come up with a solution for the floor shifter.

That is perhaps the most professional console I have ever seen.

The Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban series are all column shifter, but can be ordered with and without center consoles.

You could end up with an offset floor shift for the 4x4 if you don't order electronic 4x4 controls.

Glad to see havis was thinking ahead with the 06 explorer.

Nice products, but I just wish their customer service was better.

Actually, the one time I've needed them, they were quite friendly. I needed some extra screws for the rails (damn little bastards... fumble them and they're gone forever). One of their customer service reps stuck a bag of 50 into an envelope and mailed it to me.

You should have recieved a letter from them about it, that is how I knew about it. I would cancel the HS and order the Troy because it has an armrest area, it isn't flat like the HS is. I'm sorry I don't have a part number for you, but call Judy or George, they will help you.
