I bought a used Vertex VX-4000V about a year ago and recently (about the last month or two) I have been having some problems with it. When I go to transmit the radio transmits but no voice or noise goes through. I bought a new microphone and tried it and it still has the same problem. The radio is mounted as a remote mount if that has anything to do with it. Has anyone had this problem before or know what the problem is. Any help with be greatly appreciated.

Check the crimping on the RJ45 connectors, this has been a problem on the Vertex mics, and extension cables. Carefully check the other connectors too.

Usally you get a lot of static from a badly crimped RJ connector on the mics.

I'm a vertex dealer and have seen plenty of problems like this. the problem was a mis-design on the remote mount case on the back of the control head. If you take the back case apart on the control head by taking off the nut on the remote speaker jack and removing the 4 screws that hold the back plate too the head, you can seperate the case half's. when you seperate them you will notice that the little cable that goes to the mic jack on the back plate has probably been crimped accidently between the case halfs and the metal control head plate. This causes all kinds of funky stuff to happen. this is a common problem and if it has happen too you i have the little replacement cables to fix it. Just be very carefull when you put it back together that you tuck the cable inside the slot on the inside of the control head so it won't happen again.

I now bought another VX4000V for my other truck. I bought the radio and it works fine. I then bought the remote mount kit and today I installed the radio in the truck with the remote kit. When I was completed and connected the power to the radio all I got was a clicking sound coming from the speaker. I checked all the connections and they were fine. I then connected the radio normally without the remote kit and it worked fine. Any ideas what the problem could be? Please help...

Check the firmware versions in the head and the radio. If they are not the same versions your remote head kit will not work. I had this happen on my radio and it drove me crazy. I replaced every component of the remote head kit and still nothing. Once I got the firmware writer, found and corrected the mismatch everything worked fine. Oh everything worked fine after I fixed the crimped wire for the remote speaker. Other than that it is a great radio with a very hot reciever. I love mine.
