Quantar exciter lock issue

We found a mothballed VHF quantar and decided to see what it could do. The receive functions are excellent, but we do not get a TX Lock indicator. The frequency programmed is 154Mhz and should be fine. I noticed there are two VCO's inside, one for low section of band the other for high. We have schematics but no extender cards or cables so poking around to take readings is not possible to our knowledge. We believe the PS is ok because the receiver is running fine. It is not programmed for operation with external reference either. The software acts like it doesn't even see the exciter in the alignment and diagnosis pages either. Since we are really not experienced with these I thought I would reach out to you. Any troubleshooting, alignment or RSS advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Eric,

Read the station, then go to the Service Mode F2 and look if the Exciter and RF Power Amplifier are Enabled if not do so.

As far as the Extender Card Assembly Kit for the Quantar stations, you'll wonder who the /\/\ Engineer was and what he was thinking when he had those manufactured! That Extender Card Assembly Kit was one of the worst designs I have ever witnessed come out of /\/\ Infrastructure Engineering Product Group. That Engineer did not comprehend the meaning of Field or Bench Service! It would not support a PC Board let alone any of the station's modules! Even the technicians in /\/\'s Infrastructure Repair Depot hate that Extender Card design and the sad thing about it, you need it for servicing the equipment.

Dan

Thanks.

Thank you Dan. I will look into the enabling of the exciter and PA. I will also ask our inventory manager to order that infamous extender kit. Thanks for the info.
