Moving H42 Saber (68-88mhz) down to 6 meters?

Anyone know if this can be done? Is it as simple as the codeplug hack with an editor or will it just plain not lockup down at 52/52mhz? I have a whole bunch of these and dont know what to do with them or how to market them.

Hex editing will tell you if they will lock.If not hardware mods are required.A person would need to sit down and look at the circuitry to do tha hardware mods.I have been looking to buy a couple of these on this band split. If you would be willing to sell me two and give a price I would be grateful. Also you can sell these here on batlabs.Paul

Saber to 6 meters...

Don't even try looking for a mod for the Saber, it can't be done, the modules inside the radio can't be modified to change operating parameters, this radio is pretty much operated from software and firmware already programmed into the radio, you get +/- of the band split of the radio, but not much more, depending on band.

The internal modules are also band specific, and there are no 'simple' methods of gaining access to them for modification.

As for out of band programming, I can't say about the low band Sabers, I've never owned one.

Try programming some 6 meter frequencies in and if the radio accepts them, run the service alignment to get proper performance of the radio.

You may get away with a few Mhz. above or below the rated band split, but with that model, I doubt you would get any performance from the receiver and poor performance from the transmitter.

Your best bet would be to swap modules that are in your band split, if there are any available, that would be the best, or convert the radio to high band VHF and be done with it if 6-M isn't feasable.

There are Genesis radios that are low band capable, and easier to program for 6 meters, like the MT1000, but I have not seen or used a Saber that could be programmed down to 6 personally.

66-88 is the lowest range I have listed in my RSS, so i doubt you could slide it down more than a few Mhz. from this.

All I can tell you is....TRY IT.

But don't expect it to go there and work.

The MT1000 is a real hit or miss on 6m. I had one that refused to go higher than 52Mhz, and i had one that would do 53Mhz. That's even with grounding the lock line, they just wouldn't go any further.

I had a lowband HT600 that programmed up fine all the way to 55 but it was deafer than a post above 52.

Just hit or miss!
