TPG... I know you're out there somewhere so here goes.

I have an PMR2000 Alpha pager with voice on 155.0550. The tag on the back lists three addresses (9902767,9902757, 9803007) which I assume are GOLAY.

Now here's the hook. On the very top of the pager there is a factory sticker with 276/275 printed on it. So the first thing I'm thinking is maybe its a SP with Quik Call II ?????

276 ~ A 832.5 Hz B 788.5 Hz 275 ~ A 832.5 Hz B 746.8 Hz.

I Generated the RF and pressed the PTL switch. The frequency info is correct. I then sent the tone pairs - no page. Any ideas? I've never seen a PMR 2000 with QC II but the factory sticker with the cap codes makes sense... especially with the common A tone.

It's Golay still.

There are 3 caps:
990276
990275
990300

Each with function 7 (Golay term for Voice)

The pager has dual indivdual codes (275, 276) made under the same system prefix (990) (common with hospitals). 300 is probably a group.

The encoder was probably a preprogramed paging terminal (moden, zetron 10) that only required the last 3 of the capcode. (Since all the pagers purchased had the same first 3 digits of the capcode = 990) Then the encoder would add the 990 to the entered digits put in by the user.

The "dumb" paging operator (or person calling the terminal via phone) would only need to enter the 3 digit ID on the pager that you found once the system answered. "Please enter the pager number" person types "276" then the system would say "Please speak you message after the tone.. BEEP", person speaks and hangs up.

The other way using a trunk phone system, you could ID the pager in the phone number 555-1275, and 555-1276. When the person calls the number you get "Please speak..." and the page goes out.

Hope this clears things up a bit. (Can't write an essay... going to visit family today.) I'll write more if you need it.

I knew you would have the solution and it makes perfect sense.

Lesson learned: All three or four digit cap codes printed on the pager does not always equate to Quik Call.

PS. Sure would be nice if anyone knew of a squelch MOD for these old pagers (ie Pageboy II). They would make great receivers.

I still have a NIB PMR2000 with the charger/printer stand. Very cutting-edge for the time (mid-late 1980's). Still works perfectly!
