Hello,

Setting up a new ambulance with its medcom radio and mcguire telemetry interface to a lifepack 12.

On the old bus the medcom radio is a spectra, and the microphone for voice is the nice style telephone style handset with hang up box with the speaker on/off switch to allow private conversation. This is the nice one that is heavy duty and has the rubber PTT switch in the inside handle of the handset, very nice RX audio in the ear piece.

Well, that item is no longer available... So I see that there is a handset with a hang up box for the cdm1250 AAREX4617A.

My question is does this have speaker audio in the handset ear piece, and does the hang up cup switch between speaker and private audio?

Most of the Maxtrac and later radios provide handset earphone audio on one of the pins in the mic jack. This earphone audio is not affected by the volume control (except Spectra).

The hang-up switch box tells the radio to mute the speaker thru the HUB or with a switch contact to open the speaker lead.

On the CDM series the earpiece audio IS varried by the volume control.

How would you set this up to work with the CDM series. Is it a hardware or software thing..

The HUB is what tells the radio if the mic, or in your case handset, is off the 'hook'. That is set in the radio CPS to also mute the local speaker on a 'off hook' condition. Usally labeled "Handset operation".

Some hang up cups for handsets also have a set of contacts to open the speaker circuit when the handset is picked up, 'off hook'. Newer handset hang ups have only the HUB switch, some handsets have the HUB switch in the handset itself accuated by a magnet in the hangup.
Since the Maxtrac/Radius radios this is programable in the software.
