My repeater club is considering replacing our existing stock power supply with a new switching supply. This would cut the cabinet weight down significantly; carrying the cabinet up 2 steep flights of stairs to the rooftop equipment room has taken its toll on our backs!

Question though; is everything in the station powered by 13.8 volts DC, or are there accessories that require 9.6 volts? We have no documentation on the unit. The former trustee is now a SK.

Second question is what continuous duty rating should we target for a new supply?

I suggest that the group just remove the supply from the cabinet before the move and make a second trip for the supply and perhaps a third trip for the front and rear doors. You can even remove the PA and make a fourth trip.

The standard supply has two 12 volt and one 9.6 volt output. One of the 12 volt outputs is good for 23 amp the other is good for 3.5 amp. The 9.6 volt output is good for 2 Amp.

If it is for ham use, 100% dury cycle is a must.

The battery revert Micor supply is actually some form of switching power supply.
