You have to have a W9 radio that will fit into the DGT style consolette that had the audio inteface board in it. You also have to use a special front interface for the radio to hook it up and work properly.

I do believe the firmware in Astro Consolettes is different than the standard W9 as well. Long story short, you need an Astro consolette, the RCH won't hook directly to an astro radio. It will however hook directly to a Model III MCS2000.

How to connect the RCH 3000 Deskset to Model III MCS 2000 ?

I'll assume you just have the RCH3000, without the digital junction box. If so, you can order the RJ-45 to DB25 cable from Motorola, part# CDN6303. Or, the pinout is below:

RJ45(RCH3000 end)---------------------------->DB25 (MCS2000 end)

Pin 1--------------------------------------------->pin 5 data bus busy
Pin 2--------------------------------------------->pin 18 bus data minus
Pin 3--------------------------------------------->pin 11 RX audio high
Pin 4--------------------------------------------->pin 13 Mic high
Pin 5--------------------------------------------->pin 10 Audio GND
Pin 6--------------------------------------------->pin 10 Audio GND
Pin 7--------------------------------------------->pin 6 bus data plus
Pin 8--------------------------------------------->pin 4 data ground

The above is from the RCH3000 installation manual. Note that pins 5 & 6 both go to pin 10 audio GND.

***edit***

Please note the pinout is looking into the RCH3000 8-pin 'J2' connector, and is numbered from left-to-right from 8 to 1...meaning pin 8 is far left, and pin 1 is far right. Most people (including myself) assume it numbers the opposite (left-to-right 1 to 8).

You have to set the RCH3000 to work with the MCS2000 through the parameter entry mode, as follows:

1. The RCH must be disconnected from any radio.

2. Cycle the power. The RCH opening screen will appear, showing the product name & firmware version.

3. Press the LOCAL button, then the # button simultaneously while the opening screen is visible (apprx 8 seconds). The parameter mode cannot be entered once the opening screen disappears. If the RCH is connected to a radio, the opening screen will disappear too quickly for you to enter the parameter mode.

4. The parameter mode screen will appear. The top line will display the parameter name, the second line will display the current setting. Scroll via the MODE up and down arrow keys.

5. The parameter mode is exited by pressing the # key. If no key is pressed for a duration of 5 minutes, the parameter mode will time out.

It would be well worth it to find or purchase the manual, part# 6881129E92C.

As far as I can tell, the 3030, 3031, and 3032 are the same beast, Motorola just gives them different model numbers at the factory for tracking purposes. You can choose all 3 from the parameter menu, in the ones I've worked on & I know for a fact they worked with both Astro Spectra consolettes & MCS2000 Model III's. I've never tried the iDEN 470.
