Is anybody out there using an NTP time sever with a Smartzone 3.0 system. I am getting conflicting opinions depending on who I speak to in Motorola. Also has anybody successfully installed the "Z" release for smartzone 3.0?
Thanks,
Todd

I did the "Z" release a few months ago and was pretty seamless. We and Broward County did find a glitch in the Master Site Controller firmware though where if any more than 20 or 30 radios go into the busy que the system goes into site-wide failsoft. This happened after Hurricane Wilma and Moto is still working on a fix as far as I know.
The rest of the system was fine and brought all of the Gold Elites to XP and installed the Server 2003 software.

Thanks for the quick reply KS4VT. Did Motorola have to make any changes to your time source? They are telling us that we will need to add an NTP module to our existing netclock. I don't mind doing that, but I have heard from another Motorola engineer that on the 3.0 systems, you just use the rs232 connection to the netclock.

You cannot input time to the CEB with the RS232 line like you did with old Button & LED or Classic CRT. The "WWV BIM" has not been supported in Centracom software for over two years, nor are the B&L and Classic Op positions.
Elite OPs running on WinXP clients get their time from the ADM/CDM server, which in turn needs an NTP server on the Elite LAN. Just finished two of these migrations for different customers, and both already had an NTP server box on their LANs. One was connected to the old Spectracom WWVB via RS232, the other was the stand-alone unit 9188 with its own internal GPS.
