On a Spectra A9 set up for zones is it correct that you can only have one scanlist per zone? If it is not set up for zones, can you have one for every mode?

It is true that, if the radio is set for zones, you can have one scan list for each zone (up to some theoretical memory limit that I've never encountered). However, I believe a non-zoned Spectra uses one scan list per radio, not per "mode" (channel).

Yep, if you don't setup for zones you get one scanlist of 16 channels max, that's it.

If you setup with zones then each zone can have its own scan list, but still only 16 channels per zone in the scan.

Up to 25 zone lists and corresponding scan lists. One of the reasons being zone capable is so important. Instead of only one scan list of 16, you can have 16*16 or 256 possible selections. But, of course, that's selecting each channel on two separate lists.

Geographic zone lists are handy, for that reason.
