XTS3000/XTS5000 encryption - what the least expensive route?

I need to encrypt some P-25 traffic on a XTS3000 and XTS5000. All I need to do is prevent scanner listeners (actually just one person) from listening. As far as I'm concerened, 4 bit cypher would be fine.
Does the software encryption option work on the XTS3000?
Does the XTS5000 even have software encryption option?
Assuming software encryption won't work, what is the cheapest way add encryption to these 2 radios? The encryption can have backdoors, and be weak as heck. I just need to knock out one scanner listener who is a Pain in the butt!!!
I have the XTS3000, and my friend has the XTS5000. My flash supports s/w encryption. I can't say what flash the XTS5000 is at this time, but it's stuffed with tons of options.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
