This is really cool, I gotta say, but compared to a real handheld like those from Symbol Technologies, it looks like a bloody toy.
And on the picture, notice how the artist forgot to remove the border of the Pocket PC platform emulator running under XP

Windows Mobile TETRA PDA targets public safety apps
Dec. 07, 2005

Motorola has announced what it claims is the first ever PDA to operate on "TETRA" networks. The TETRA PDA will run Windows Mobile and will offer public safety users "pocket-sized access" to essential two-way data applications while on the move, according to the company.

What's TETRA?
TErrestrial Trunked RAdio (TETRA) is an open digital mobile radio and walkie-talkie standard defined by the European Telecommunications Standardization Institute (ETSI) to meet the needs of "the most demanding" professional mobile radio users, according to the TETRA Association website. It uses Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) to support one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many communication of both voice and data.
The standard is widely deployed in Europe and to a lesser extent in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. However, there do not appear to be any TETRA installations in North America at present.
According to the Wikipedia article on Terrestrial Trunked Radio, unlike cellular technologies, TETRA can operate in a direct point-to-point mode if the infrastructure fails.
About the TETRA PDA
Motorola's TETRA PDA runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and is based on an undisclosed 520 MHz processor, equipped with 128 MB of SDRAM and 64 MB of Flash. The device's 3.5-inch QVGA TFT LCD displays 256K colors and sports a 4-wire resistive touchscreen.
Available options include Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS, and camera, according to Motorola.
The pocket-sized device measures 5.7 x 3.27 x 1.38-2 inches (145 x 83 x 35-50 mm) and weighs less than 500 grams, Motorola says.
"Motorola developed this PDA to reflect the growing needs of customers who want to deliver relevant applications directly to mobile officers," said Nick Carter, TETRA Product Manager. "The pocketable, TETRA PDA and the applications suite it can provide will really help meet their productivity needs."
Motorola says the TETRA PDA is expected to be available in the third quarter of next year.
