Can a spectra 800 MHz radio be identified for type II or privacy plus buy the model number. If so which is which?

All Spectra radios with "AxAK" at the end of the model number are conventional only. Any with "BxAK" are both Privacy Plus Type I & Type II capable, I believe. If they end with "CxAK", then they are SmartNet capable. There was also a "ExAK" series which was SmartZone capable, but I've never come across one.

There was an orphaned series, the "DxAK" which the model specific page on Batlabs says is for "Startsite" systems...those systems came in both Privacy Plus Type I and Privacy Plus Type II versions...so I'm not sure what the difference would be with the "BxAK" models.

Oh, you can find the model number decoding info on Batlabs here:

Thanks, if it's not a bother. I assume they look physically the same, other than maybe an "E" designation on the front somewhere?

I didn't take pics of the entire radio because, really, the only remarkable part is the controller board. The rest of it is identical to any other 800 Spectra. Also, the top button arrangement is mine. I don't recall the original config, but the Emergency button was one of the recessed plunger types, the Scan was second from the right, and there was no Select button. The numeric keypad, however, is exactly as I got it, including the arrow keys.
