running antenna wires

Post by justme »

I am trying to find a way to run antenna wires from the rear of a silverado ext cab pickup into back of cab (under rear seat) without drilling any holes thru body. Any help/info??

There should already be a wiring harness running from the rear of the truck bed to the front. This would include the wiring for your brake, turn signal and reverse lights. You could just follow the same path the factory ran this harness.

A lot times there are rubber grommets located under the trim panels along the floor boards on either side of the truck cab...You could open a small hole to run your coax thru. I have not worked on a pickup truck in some time...so this information about the grommets may be old...but rest assured there is an existing wiring harness for your rear lights.

Word of caution...there may or may not be a harness that has wiring for your fuel tank...I have had issues with high powered radios causing some interesting effects to the fuel management system when antenna coax is ran along side of the fuel tank wiring harness. This may not be the case in your application...just throwing that out there.

What type of antenna mounts are you using to mount your antenna's?

unable to find

Post by justme »

I am unable to find any rubber grommets (that would make this install too easy!!). by running coax with wiring harness would mean I would have to run it up thru firewall and then back to under rear seat. I was hoping someone knew a shortcutt so I wouldnt have to do that. Thanks for the reply.

On mine there are air vents behind the cab that let air out from behind the rear seat into the area between the bed and cab. It ought to be easy to snake a wire through there though it would require removing the seat I think but pretty much any real install in these trucks requires that you take the rear seat out.

I have yet to find a pickup truck that didn't have some rubber
grommets in the floor someplace. Get on your back and slide
under the truck and take a peak at the bottom underside of the
truck. These rubber grommets are faily large with maybe an
area of 1 x 2 inches of flat surface to play with. Should be at
least one on each side of the truck at the back bottom of the
cab. Many times there will be a large one and a small one.

Once you locate them from the bottom side, your probably going
to have to lift the rug or floor mat to locate them from the inside.
Take a scredriver and make a small hole to allow you to push the
coax cable through. Then just run the cable to where you need to
go.
