What does "MTSX" Mean?

I read about the term "MTSX" on here. Exactly what radios does this mean? I can't think of any radio models that have "MTSX" in them.

I think it's a contraction of "MT2000, MTS2000, MTX8000, MTX9000, MTX 838, MTX 888" which are the series of radios the MTSX RSS can program. I personally agree that MTSX is alot easier to say than above! Those radios are all in the same general family so they sometimes get referred to as "MTSX radios".

how about......"JEDI",
which I think is also a quick term to class those radios. I think Motorola came out with this naming scheme, mainly due to the boards and chassis. Listed below are some other terms for other radios. Please feel free to add or correct me if I'm wrong.
"Jedi" MTX8000, MTX9000, MT2000, MTS2000, MTX888
"Genesis" HT600, P200 etc
"waris" HT1250, HT750, HT1550
"Minnow" EX500, EX600
"Yoda" GP300, GP88, P110's (I think)

Well, it does still apply to those radios, even though they are no longer made. Well, I know production of the JT has been stopped, not sure about the HT, but I think it has.

I believe the HT-1000 "M" stopped production at the end of 2004.
At the end of 2005 (maybe also) the MT2000?
how far off am I?........

I believe the last time you were able to put in an order with"M" for the HT1000 was around May, 2005. Our fire dept placed our last order for 6 of them just before the deadline. I'm not sure on the MT2000 production though.

Really? I've never heard of that before, and was unaware that Motorola even had funny little names for their Radius line spin-off.

That's something else I've wodered about, those Star Wars names for the radios. Are those names really officially used by Motorola, or are those just nicknames used by hobbyists?

As I understand it, they are officially used by Motorola. I believe that I have actually seen the word 'Jedi' printed on the inside of the front housing of an HT1000. That was before I learned much about Motorola, and I remember thinking, "Jedi? What the h#!! does it say 'Jedi' there for?"

I just don't see the connection between "Jedi" and Motorola radios. How come they're named that way?
And why do they call it "Batlabs"?

Before the Jedi was the Saber. Before the Saber was the Genesis. Remember the old Star-Tac phones? Someone in marketing must have been a real geek.

It's just a nickname for the radios. No real connection to be made. Like calling your friend John, "Cricket".
And also "Batlabs" is actually short for Batwing Laboratories (says that on the homepage), Batwing meaning the Motorola /\/\ symbol. Laboratories... well, I think it's safe to say that like every Lab in the country, many "experiments" happen here.

The last cases I ordered for recasing some MTX-8000's and HT-1000's the cases had a tag inside that said jedi. I realy like those radios, I think the 2000 was discontinued last summer too.I was still carying a mtx-8000 b7 when ia had issued new 8250's to the rest of the company, but the management made me change as it looked bad and I made no bones about saying I thought it was a superior radio.I am now used to the 8250 but still have a stash of mtx-8000's

Wasn't the Euro series of the Jedi referred to as Skywalker?

Just outta curiosity is there going to be a Vader series? or a Chewbacca series? Now could Motorola be sued for using such names for their product lines by Spielberg?

or George Lucas I mean

These are not "official" Motorola names for their products. What happens is the same as in other industries - a project team is assembled to create a new product that meets certain design goals. They have to call it something internally so some engineer comes up with a name like "Project Genesis" .
Eventually marketing decides what the actual product names are going to be. The internal names sometimes stick beyond the engineering group but is not by corporate intent - and yes - when Motorola's sales types started running around refering to their [then] new MTS2000 radios as "JEDI" - corporate got a call from the lawyers at Lucasfilms. Word went out in a hurry to NOT use that designation in ANY way whatsoever.

Apple, Sun Microsystems and Silicon Graphics are also famous for their project codenames.

Motorola also used codenames for their test equipment.
Apache - the R2000 series
Papoose - the R2200/R2400 series
Cochise - the R2600 series

Not to argue with you, but the "Jedi" name is all through MOL and as stated earlier, the label on the new face plates actually say "Jedi" on them.

I'm so damned happy NASA skipped over the star wars stuff when they named the first shuttle.
I can see it now...Houston, this is the Millenium Falcon...HA HA HA!
I'm a lifelong Star Trek fan, star wars is just a comedic experience with a futuristic plot.
I'd love to see a'Vulcan' lineup...
Or a Data series for link/bridge systems..
Enterprize for complete systems packages..
I better stop, I do NOT want to help give Circle-M any ideas, they can pay me to do that.
Enterprize.....One to beam up!

We also had names for the RF power transistor packages at the old WCDMA/RF POWER division down in Phoenix.
They were all stupid snake names like PYTHON, COBRA, SUPER-PYTHON, VIPER and others that I'd like to forget about and of course the famous non snake name on the HOG pkg. named after old Helge O. Granberg.
Interestingly we never had a DIAMONBACK package in the line which of course is a common snake in the deserts of Phoenix.
Your correct in that the product line managers came up with these ridiculous names.

If I'm not mistaken, the Beta software for the jedi radios was code-named "Wookie RSS"...

It's strange they allow a sense of humor on the inside but are complete pricks to the people who pay their salaries (the customers).
