New Sys Saber III Audio Question

Just got a "new" never used Sys Saber III VHF from eBay, one of those WHCA radios which still have Secret Svc freqencies in it. In any case I had been using a Saber I and loved it for many reasons including the great audio. Now while the New Saber III isn't programmed for what I need yet, all I can do is get it to drop PL and give some squelch noise. I did notice that the audio output sounds like what you would get out of a remote speaker mike, kinda high pitched, treble turned too high on your stereo, type sound. It is not at all like any of my other M radios including 2 gp300's, an MT1000, an HT600 and several MX radios.

Just wondeing if the audio output could be adjusted or if it this way because of cramming a speaker behind the keypad. If that is the case I am a little disappointed in the quality of the audio. I am a big Saber fan and wanted to upgrade to the 256 channel unit to get more flexability.

Any input would be appreciated.

The radio you have has an updated audio filter/amp configuration, this chage in pitch is to make the aduio clearer in high noise environments, you should have noticed a change in the sound changing pitch about mid scale, this is the audio shaping that's taking place.

At lower volume, most radios exhibit a bassy response, and this was chaged in 'updated' CORE masks to give a higher intelligibility to the received audio, and to overcome external noise as well due to the possibility of external noises being close in tone/sound as the lower, bassy output of the radio and thereby missing the call.

I have a UHF Saber that has this feature, and it takes some getting used to, but does create an easier to listen to audio in noisy situations.

I don't know when this was added, but I have several radios from the same time period, and two have this while the ohters do not, but they were all UHF models that had this feature, none of the VHF radios had it, and they are a mix of CON-5 and CON-6...So I am not certain where this change came in to use.

Enterprize.....One to beam up!

Hmm, technology at work. You know it is funny but I have noticed that most of my portables unless cranked all the way up are very hard to hear while on the belt. That is one reason I use PTT ID. The burst is a great alert to an incoming transmission.

As I said I have not heard any voice yet just squelch until I get frequencies for my area.

BTW, my radio is a CON-5 I believe

Thanks
