And you need to do this because of?

Neither of those bands are legal for "M" radios. The 27 MHz band doesn't even allow FM.

27 MHz is for CB. What would you need an FM radio for on an AM-only piece of spectrum?

Maratrac: FM
CB: AM

A good way to receive CB channels is to purchase a CB from eBay for $5.00.

In fact, I'll trade you a CB for a Maratrac lowband!

Yes, it's possible it would work... I think.

I suppose it's a matter of hex editing and pushing the splits like you would do with any other out of band mod. It may require some retuning but that's not all that far out of range.

You could pick up an X9000 and use the HAM RSS to go down to 25MHz, but again, the radio's are FM and not AM so it really doesn't matter anyways.

There are a lot of multimode CB's out there. They are known as "export"
models and do operate FM as well as AM and SSB. They are as common as Lot Lizards at a truck stop.

The 26 mHz FM frequencies I have heard of are for broadcast remote pickup or links.

I took a low split maxtrac down to 10 meter ham and it worked so well,I decided to see how low it would go with good performance,it did go to 26mhz and if I had retuned the vco I am sure it would have gone to 25mhz,speced out great at 26.000

The old Petroleum radio service has a bunch of 20K0F3E (FM) frequencies down around 25.0-25.1 MHz, mainly for oil spill cleanup and the like, and Forest Products has 29.71 to 29.79 MHz. Both are now available to any Industrial/Business licensee, if you're so inclined.

I think there's some old business band stuff at 27.43 through 27.51 MHz that could be licensed as either AM or FM emission, but you'd be crazy as hell to want those ...

If you look hard enough, you can usually find them in the
boxes of junk at a hamfest. I've seen them at Hosstrader's
from time to time.
