Can someone point me in the right direction? I need to find out about service recalls that /\/\ has on Public Safety equipment. Is there a number or a website I can visit to find this? I called MOTO but the people I spoke to have no idea what I'm talking about. Go figure. Thanks.

Motorola will play dumb on service recall issues if you are not in their dealer loop.

Is there anything specific you're looking for?

Most, if not all of the MSS (ones that deal with the high tier stuff) should have a binder, or inserted in the line binder any SRN's that come out.

I don't think it should be any problem for the service department to help you out if your an agency or customer.

People "off the street" may have a problem though.

All SRN's and PSB's are released to MSS's on Motorola Online as PDF's, if you have an item that you think might have a bulletin out on it I can research it.

I heard there was a recall or problems with the XTS series comander microphones. Is this true?

I'm not sure about an SRN, but there is an issue with these mikes that you should be aware of.

By their nature, use of the mike-mounted volume or channel select functions can put those function settings out of synch with the volume knob or the channel selector knob on the radio. The radio is designed to detect anyone using the radio knobs, in which case control reverts to the radio.

We have found the microswitches or whatever is used for that detection function to be extremely sensitive. As a result, the radio may revert to a different channel or volume setting than what you made via the mike, and if your user isn't aware of the reversion, things could be dicey.

There is an SRN on this issue, however it just expired.

SRN - 1447

Distribution: MOL: Service: Bulletins: Two-Way Portable June 2004
From: XTS 5000 Subscriber Group Deadline: December 31, 2005
Subject: XTS5000 Portable – Inadvertent Volume Change When Using Commander Remote Speaker Mic
Symptoms:
When using XTS 5000 with a Commander Remote Speaker Mic (RMN5021), if the user inadvertently moves the radio’s volume
control knob, the radio will “take control” of the volume level instead of using the volume level that was set by the Commander
RSM. When that happens the actual radio volume could be either too loud or too quiet for the user’s situation.
Potential Problem Radios:
XTS5000 (All Bands) portable radios with versions R02.00.00 through R04.00.01. The Commander RSM was not available
before 4QtrSER2002. Radios shipped between September 2002 through May 2004, denoted by serial numbers xxx_CSxxxx
through xxxCEKxxxx.
Cause: Accessory – Radio Interaction.
Corrective Action:
Upgrade the radio’s firmware to Host R04.50.00 or later.
What to Expect
Once the Host has been upgraded, the radio volume knob must be turned approximately 45 degrees before it takes control of
setting the radio volume level when the Commander Mic is in use.
