this has probably been asked before, and i searched the forum but couldnt find the answer for what i was looking for. i have a minitor 3 with the amplified charger that has the accessory port on the back of it, all i want it to do is turn on a lamp i have on the desk next to it when i receive a call (tired of tripping over things in the dark for those middle of the night calls

) could anyone tell me what the easiest way to accomplish this would be?

you can get a pinout on the minitor 2 page of batlabs, the pager outputs 12volts, so you need a relay in line with the lamp. it needs to be a 12v coil with 120v contacts.

yea i read that, but the problem is im not too good with electrical stuff, i have no idea what pins/cables to use and what do you mean 120v contacts?

ok.
c1 (+) and c2 (-) is a lowvoltage magnetic coil that when energised pulls the contacts toghther, making a connection between s1 and s2.
The following picture comes from mc mastercarr. It is of the exact relay you would want to use.
It is rated for 25 amps at 240VAC, plenty for a lamp. it is a dual pole relay, meaning it will turn on bolth sides of the power to the lamp.
The coil of the relay (c1 and c2) is rated for 12vdc, and the relay in the amp charger is rated for a maximum of 28vdc. You are going to need any old wall wart adapter that outputs 12VDC at a minimum of 300MA.
You can get the plug for the pager charger from an old din style keyboard, or you can get them at the ratshack.
If you still dont have a clue, after you get a relay and ps i will draw you a diagram.

ok, so that coil that pulls the contacts together is inside the relay? where to i purchase the relay, do they sell them at radioshack?
