Hi I have a UHF radio I plan on installing in my truck but dont want to run an antenna on the roof. I was wondering if it was possible to use a trunk mount antenna adapter and place it on the hood lip of the passanger side. I want to use a trunk mount antenna on the hood of the truck because I cant seem to find any other alternative to a roof mount antenna and I have no place to put in in the rear of the vehicle. Would this option work ok? I realize every time I open the hood I will have to take the antenna down or it will fall.....

It would probably work fine.

Better bet would be to get one of those adjustable trunk mounts, like a Comet RS-720 (or something similar). They clamp on to the lip and have multiple adjustments for positioning the antenna vertically.

And they won't fall off when you open the lid (or hood in your case).

EDIT: they come in PO and NMO flavours.

I have 2 Larsen NMO mounts on each side of the hood on my '02
Dodge Ram permamently affixed. One is a quarter wave UHF; and
the other one is an 800 trunking antenna. The mounts do not interfere
with opening or closing the hood at all. They perform ok mounted
in this fashion. If at all a possibility; get 'em on the roof!

Exactly what Im looking for! As far as the actual antenna.... I would have to but a UHF perm mount antenna ( and coax) and just attach it as if I were palcing it on the roof right?

Yes. Around here you can buy the mount separate from the coax assembly, or as a complete kit.

In the case of the Comet mount they come with a hole for either a PO (UHF) or NMO.

I'm partial to NMO myself since they're the industry standard.

It's not an issue for me anymore because I bit the bullet and drilled a couple of holes for permanent NMO mounts.
