I must beg pardon for my likely ramnlings here, I'm still hopped up on *quil due to the bug that's got me in its cluches...
So, I've recently come into posession of a XTS3k 800, that in all aspects appears to be legitimate, i.e. original tags, tags match model, serial, flashcode, etc. Right now this radio is H37/Analog, with a 7/7 Host/DSP.
Now, due to my work with the local SO, I would like to keep this radio as legitimate as possible, because I would like to eventually get this radio on the local 800 system, again, totally legitemitely. A lot of how I may/will proceed is up in the air right now, since I still do not know the exact rebanding plans for the system, but I figured I'd get a head start and cover all of my bases. So, here go the questions.
First off, the system is a IIi SmartNet system. I know at this point that the system planners are going P25, so at minimum I would need a P25 flashcode uplift. If they transition the system to a SmartZone system, I'd need a H39 uplift as well. Let's presume the worst, that I'd need both a P25 and H39 SmartZone uplift. How much is this likely to run me (and what options would I have to tell the MSS/Depot)?
As for firmware, obviously the Host/DSP in the radio currently is rather out of date, to say nothing of it being analog only. Now, from what I've read if I get the P25/H39 uplift, it will come with the necessary firmware to support whatever target uplifts are being placed in the radio.
Lastly, if I'm getting this done legitimately, would it be better to try and have the system shop do it through whatever resources they use (if they even would for me), or send it through a MSS? And if I send it in now vs later am I likely to have a problem with not having the firmware to deal with rebanding? I.e. if I depot'd the radio right now, would they load firmware that was capable of dealing with rebanding, or do they do that only for customers who specifically need it?
I know this is all very hypothetical, and I thank everyone in advance for any information/guidance they can provide.
Keepin' it real at the MSS/Depot... an XTS3k question...
