If there is a way to make a Saber I scan i haven't been able to find it, so i'm guessing no. It won't let you select anything to do with scanning in radio features, and even if you were able to program it for scan how would you turn it on and off?
Saber I -- what it can and can not do...

The use by Motorola of the "CN" suffix on a Saber leads to this kind of
misunderstanding by many people who don't know that a factory ID
code is, in some cases, just plain misleading. The "C" means nothing,
because the S1does not scan -- period. Where you want to see the
"C" is on an S2 or S3, because if it's an "A" or a "B" (which is pretty rare)
then the A and B radios lack the scan capability.
Whether it's an A, a B, or a C means nothing on a Saber I. Never did and
never will.

just checked....
ver 05.xx someting allows "mode slaved scan" to be selected in a saber I,although I havent tested it to see if it works...
ver 07.xx does NOT have "mode slaved scan" as a feature option for a saber I..
so it might have been one of those "errors" in the RSS that was removed in a later version....

Well, not entirely. If you're creating a codeplug from scratch, you'll have to make sure the CORE version matches your target radio.. which corresponds to the A, B, or C. I learned that the hard way a while back after beating my head against the desk trying to figure out why the radio wouldn't take the codeplug.

The only Saber that will scan with the model I, is the Systems model, as stated previously, no other Saber I will be able to scan, even if you see that option under F4 for radio options.
The basic Saber I does not have the memory on board to allow scanning.
The CN on the model number is a revision of the models, but on Saber II's and III's, that also indicates that the radio is new enough to allow scanning to be selected and used according to how you set up this option under F4.
There will be several 'new' options available once you select this, such as Mode Slaved scan, Selectable scan, and Second fixed priority, and priority to follow channel selector, so whatever channel you have manually selected on your channel, that will be the #1 priority, all others are 2nd and so on.
Selectable scan is different in operation as well, as you select the TX mode channel you want, then no matter what channel you are scanning, the TX mode channel will be your #1 priority, no matter what's currently being scanned, you can see this by pressing the monitor button while the radio is receiving on a channel, it should 'revert' to the main priority channel you selected in TX mode.
Your selectable scan will program as follows:
TX mode (priority #1)You can NOT delete from scan list while scanning)
Scan channels 1 - 12
2nd fixed priority(if selected as option in F4)(you can NOT delete from scan list while receiving)
All other channels CAN be temporarily deleted from your active scan list as they are NOT a priority channel.
Hope this clears the air a little about the Saber analog portables and how 'scan' functions on them as well.
Enterprise.....One to beam up!
