Tried searching this subject but couldn't find anything.

I remember reading years ago that a nicad battery loses about 2% capacity per day, sitting on a shelf (not in the charger) after being fully charged.
Does any one know what the self discharge rate is on a nimh battery? (if any?) Since a lot of us keep a spare handy.

From: Batteries in a Portable World, Isidor Buchmann, Cadex Electronics, Second Edition, 2001, page 33:
"Both NiMH and NiCD are affected by high self-discharge. The NiCD loses about 10 percent of its capacity within the first 24 hours, after which the self-discharge settles to about 10 percent per month. The self-discharge of the NiMH is about one-and-a-half to two times greater compared to NiCD."
From: Rechargeable Batteries Applications Handbook, The Technical Marketing Staff of Gates Energy Products, 1992, page 30:
"One difference in performance between the two cell types(NiCD and NiMH) occurs in self-discharge, i.e. loss of capacity in storage. The NiMH cell currently self-discharges at a slightly higher rate than that seen with NiCD cells in storage. Development work is targeted at reducing the self-discharge rate to about the level seen with NiCD cells."

No sh_t. I thought it might be just the opposite.
